CellAED® Miniature Defibrillator at Medica Trade Fair Dusseldorf
Australian Medical Technology Startup Rapid Response Revival will present its low cost, miniature defibrillator CellAED® LifeSaver® at Medica Trade Fair, Dusseldorf Germany from 12-15 November 2018.
The digital transformation of health care is again one of the hot topics slated for this event that is expected to attract more than 120,000 professional visitors from 130 different countries.
According to Rapid Response Revival Chief Executive Officer Leanne Knowles, the CellAED® LifeSaver® will revolutionise the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) industry. ‘The market launch of CellAED® LifeSaver® later this year will change the way the world thinks about and uses an AED.’
The CellAED® LifeSaver® is slightly larger than an iPhone 7+, making it easy to carry in a glovebox or a handbag, and it will only cost around A$150. Most existing AEDs are heavy and cumbersome, and they cost more than A$1500. As a result of that high cost and size and weight, defibrillators have not been very accessible to the average person or household – and all this is about to change,’ she added.
The Medica trade fair features a Startup Park for young companies in the digital health sector to present their ideas and to meet potential business partners. Rapid Response Revival Managing Director Donovan Casey explained the company’s strategy. ‘We’ll be setting up in the Startup Park, and we expect it will be a very good investment for our business. Our focus right now is on building our order book and setting up alliances with companies where there is a natural synergy, so we can scale quickly.’
Globally the survival rate for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is less than 1% *1. In Australia and similar regions, the survival rate is estimated between 3% and 10% *2. The survival rate increases when a defibrillator is used inside 5 minutes of a person experiencing SCA, but average ambulance arrival times are rarely less than 11-15 *3 minutes (Australian statistics).
